The waiting is over for South Africas Next Wonder Horse. Race Fans worldwide want to see the Best Take on the Best Internationally.
Story by the Flat Racing Guru UK,
TURFONTIEN. SAT MARCH 2ND, 2019. 1800 MTRS. 1 MILE 1 FURLONG.
Hawwaam ( MR 112) under Gavin Lerena for Mike De Kock Trainer & Owned by Hamdan al Maktoum, won the annual grade 1 S A Classic part Two of the Moved forward one Month in the racing Calender of the South African Triple Crown Series: Securing his Position as one of the best 3yos in Recent times in South Africa.
A colt by Silvano (GER) out of the Terrific Mare Halfway To Heaven (by JetMaster) Bred at the Famous Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein Stud. During the Race itself, Gavin Lerena got Hawwaam to settle nicely 3 from the back on the Inside, Approach Control took them along into the straight and seemed to be Going OK….
Hawwaam was first of the Big Three in the Betting to make his move along the Inside: but Ominously Both National Park and Barahin seemed to be going Equally as well and In fact National Park cruised up Taking a position widest of all up the straight and the Geldings Jockey The classy Richard Fourie seemed to be Ooozing Confidence.
So this Makes what Happened next even More Impressive!!. Hawwaams Jockey a Picture of Concentration seemed to be gearing up for a Battle Taking His Mount into the lead at the 200 Meter marker and there was nothing his Rivals could do to close the gap between themselves and Hawwaam under the Brilliant Lerena who was recording a treble on the day: he Pulled away in Breath Taking Style and seemed to want even further! and the further he went the better he Looked, National park and Barahin Had their Hearts Broken and were resigned to the places inside the last 100 meters.
The Crowd Media and Connections were Left Gasping at what they’d Just witnessed.
WHAT THEY SAID
Gavin Lerena spoke to Sheldon peters of Tellytrack after the race and was full of praise for connections and Breeders of this Colt, Mathew De Kock was very pleased but wouldn’t say where Hawwaam would go Next as this needs Discussion he stated, this between His Dad the Mighty Mike De Kock and the Owner Hamdam al Maktoum.
When I spoke to Gavin today I asked for a Quote or what he thought of Hawwaam Yesterday and He Kindly Replied and Said this was the best Horse he has ever sat on, (WOW) Strong words Indeed, which is very good to hear as according to my figures you can put him alongside the 4yo Do It Again Trained By Justin Snaith and Regarded as South Africa’s Best over the trip of 1800 to 2000 meters, currently stands a Merit rating of 125.
Hawwaam. has a current Merit Rating of 112, Yesterday he Pulled well clear of National Park Rated 117 and to boot it Looked easy the further he went the better, the race was run nearly 3 seconds faster than the group 1 Fillies Classic, Which was won by Return Flight Ridden By Anton Marcus Trained By Sean Tarry.
Just beating the 109 rated Nafaayes, One has to think Return flight Improved and Nafaayes Ran her race: Doing My Sums Seconds to Lengths comparing Both Races!! Hawwaam, would have Finished 12 Lengths in front of Return Flight Based on those Times, Both Horses carrying 60 kilos’ Simple Maths Tells you Haawaam ran to a level Merit of about 122 yesterday at Minimum, According to me unofficially.
TAKING ON THE BEST IN ZA AND THEN THE WORLD?
Options? for Hawwaam, there’s the Derby on March 30 which sees the final Legs of the Triple Crown and Triple Tiara or theirs the Champions day Champion Challenge carrying a purse of 4 million Zar on May 4th 2019.
Whether we see Hawwaam again Next year as Mike De Kock has Indicated on his website http://www.mikedecockracing.com That he wants the Quarantine Issues I’ve spoken about on many Occasions Lifted by the South African Govt which would allow other Govts to Lift the Long Quarantine times which Frankly Messes with Horses abilities. The South African Horse Sickness is not Contagious and to Ban South African Horses from travelling by their Own Govt is simply Ridiculous in all of its forms.
Or will Hawwaam be off to Stud? This could be the One??? the Stallion they’ve Been waiting for! to Upgrade their stock to Levels yet Unseen, I think so.
That was My First thought many Months ago when I followed this Horse and Brought Him to UK Horse racing Fans. whatever they do I wish them well and this could be the Horse South Africa has been waiting for to take on the World. We wish them all the Luck in the World.
