Tales of Glorious Goodwood,
It was the last day of Glorious Goodwood The Sat, 1995 24 yrs ago Id been going to the races since I was 9 YRS o with My Dad, 1995 I was in my Mid 20s:
OK, I looked at the form and made my Selections for the Stewards Cup. Shikaris son for the Goodwood Stewards cup! was my Pick… I noticed hed won at Brighton another switch backtrack and came late with his efforts full of Petrol, I think this is how to ride these switch backtracks over 6 furlongs 7 furlongs,
Although Modern Day Training Methods have changed it is not quite the same needed. Horses who use nothing up and pray the gaps to come late, for that you get the odds but its a gamble!
I went to the Tote Office that is when the Tote was the Tote they gave fantastic value for money in those days: I placed my £30 ew on Shikaris son and sat and watched the race, the only time I heard my Horse? Shikaris son Ridden by Richard Hughes mentioned was when the race was Over! really, for 1 minute 9 seconds, I heard no mention of Shikaris son if I remember right then as they crossed the Line, I heard the fantastic Sir Peter OSullivan Stutter the words Shikaris son came from Nowhere hes got it! shikaris son: as they went past the line. obviously, in the heat of the moment, I still do it today on Track forget my colours with the Excitement and end up watching the replay on the TV Screens in the Bar. anyway the good part and this is when you know I won, I handed my ticket £60 into the tote Girl on duty! win a place bet and got a huge surprise?, the win paid 89/1 and place 11/1 on Shikaris Son for that Race on the Tote…..my winnings were just over 3 Grand for a £60 quick single.EW bet, most have to have a once in every 4months Yankee up to collect those sums for similar stakes.
Goodwood Memories shares yours in the reply boxes. Myself in my mid-20s at the time I put this bet on.

3.00 Qatar Lennox Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1)
Hey Gaman, 3/1 1pt win Hey Gaman has always been held in the Highest Regards in James Tates Newmarket Yard, since well after the sales, A 4yo Colt by New Approach, he cost only 100k from the Tatts Oct book 1 sale, He was a Big Rangy Colt then, Now he’s started Filling that Frame, one can see those High Early expectations were right on the Money! I mean a Lot doesn’t turn out to be? it’s taken a while but now he’s showing His Daddys way, He did take after the dam early on for me but now New Approaches magnificent Genes are starting to take hold, Actually I think this could be a science Unexplored maybe it is already known, LOL. It is Now a one Horse race However Zaaki, & Past Winners Sir Dancelot & BretonRock along with Don Juan Triumph if he brings his A-game could all pose massive threats to Hey Gamman. To Battle, they will go.
